About

Renée Owen’s award-winning sculptural fiber & book art combines paper, fabric, thread & wire with found objects. Using embroidery, natural dyes, ecoprinting, fiber techniques and bookbinding, it elevates the detritus of everyday life to newfound purpose and meaning. The richly tactile assemblages embody a wabi sabi aesthetic, finding beauty in the rustic simplicity of natural materials and nature's imperfection. A nuanced work which communicates an awareness of impermanence honed from spending time alone in the wild, this work celebrates each small moment, preserving them for future generations. Sometimes startling, always revealing, they expose and explore the fragility of the natural world, our daily lives and our connections with one another. Renée’s work is held in both private & public collections, and exhibited in numerous juried shows, as well as in print and online journals, including Surface Design Journal, Fiber Arts Now; Letter Arts Review (Featured Artist), Letter Arts Review (Annual Juried Issue) and Lark's 500 Handmade Books, Vol. 2. Her poetry, widely published internationally, is collected in two award-winning traditionally bound volumes, This One Life (Backbones Press) and Alone on a Wild Coast (Snapshot Press). She lives and works in Northern California.
